I am currently a senior at Virginia Tech, pursuing a Computer Science major and Industrial Design minor. I am also a part of the University Honors program, a Computer Science Ambassador for the department, and I am on the executive board of my sorority (alpha Kappa Delta Phi).
Some of the things I enjoy are travelling, trying new foods, dogs, and music. In the spring of 2016, I was lucky to be able to study abroad at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland. There, I took some computer science classes, kept a travel blog, and learned how to play the bagpipe!
I am very excited to be starting my first full-time job at Microsoft as a Software Engineer! I will be working on the OneDrive/SharePoint team in Redmond, Washington.
I am currently a teaching assistant for CS 3114, Data Structures and Algorithms. I regularly hold office hours to help students with their programming projects and homeworks using Java. Topics that we focus on are file I/O, binary search trees, PR Quad trees, hashing, implementing a large-scale GIS system, cache memory, graphs, and algorithm analysis.
I am currently researching in the Human Computer Interaction field with Dr. Scott McCrickard. We are investigating how multi-touch user displays can be used to show data, using the Microsoft Perceptive Pixel. Languages used: C#, Javascript
During my second internship at Microsoft, I worked on the OneDrive/SharePoint Sharing team. My project was to create a way for admins on SharePoint Online to manage all the sharing links created on their site. Languages used: C#, SQL, Javascript, ASP.net
During my first internship at Microsoft, I worked on the Office Engineering team as an Explore Intern. I worked with a team of 3 other Explore Interns to create a way to better manage bugs. We worked as program managers for 3 weeks, and then software engineers for 9 weeks. My team worked to redesign the failure investigation page by using HTML, Javascript, C#, and SQL.
As a Digital Developer for Modea, I regularly utilized XML code, Photoshop, and various mobile platforms to create digital solutions for clients such as Verizon Wireless. My main task was to help construct emulators and simulators for new mobile phones, in an effort to improve user experience and accessibility. Technologies used: XML, Photoshop
As an intern in Geneva, Switzerland, I helped this IT Company improve upon the user interface of the "Lexical Research Tool" for the city of Paris, using PHP and SQL. This tool was being produced to help the Paris government manage potential domain names and search for valuable domains to control. I also largely used HTML and CSS to design an entire new user interface and website that non-programmers can use to navigate through large amounts of data. With SQL, I created different search options, word clouds, and numerous data displays for expansion of this tool.
As a part of Public Relations Committee in my sorority, I am in charge of the website. After the website had not been updated in over 2 years, I completely re-designed it. I am currently working on implementing Bootstrap to make the website more responsive, and to keep updating the information.
In my Graphical User Interface class, my group created an e-commerce website focused on wine. We were able to learn many web development skills, such as AJAX, Javascript, JQuery, SQL, PHP, HTML, CSS, and more. We also used the Google Maps API, Google Search API, the MailChimp API, and D3 to create a world map graphic. The entire website is currently hosted on Amazon Web Services.
Create and explore virtual art in local parks. I participated in StudentHack in Manchester, England, and my team created a virtual geo-caching iOS application. We were able to win the "Best use of the Yelp API" award for our efforts. I worked on the website and helped with saving the images to the app. We used Python, Swift, HTML, CSS, and Javascript.
When studying abroad at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland, I kept a blog of my travels. Check it out to see where I travelled to, pictures, and what I learned during the best semester of my life! (Picture above is me in Copenhagen, Denmark)
For both the 2015-2016 and 2016-2017 school years, I was awarded the Microsoft Scholarship Award for high achievements as a summer intern. Both of these generous scholarships have helped pay for my tuition a total of $9000.
For 2016-2017 school year, I was awarded the Academic Merit Scholarship by the Virginia Tech University Honors Program. The scholarship is awarded to students who have gone above and beyond academically to “make themselves interesting.”
At StudentHack IV in Manchester, England, my hackathon team won this award for our iOS app, Park Painter. We used the Yelp API to find local parks, reviews and ratings for the user. In reward for our efforts, Yelp gave us Leap Motion Controllers.
For the 2015 Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing, Google awarded me a full travel grant to attend the conference. Thanks to their generosity, I was able to fly out to Houston, TX to attend the largest women in technology celebration in the world.
For the 2014-2015 school year, the Virginia Tech Computer Science Department awarded me a generous scholarship. I was also invited to a special networking luncheon hosted by the CSRC.
